Welcome to the launch of the Dirty Little Secrets gardening blog

February 15th, 2009

Happy February 2009 and welcome to the launch of the Dirty Little Secrets gardening blog.
I hope to encourage you to pursue the passion of gardening, which comes with many benefits. I’ve gardened all my life and it’s kept me sane, happy and in touch with Mother Nature..

First, there’s the health benefit of gardening. Muscles grow stronger and better when you heave-ho bags of compost. Pounds disappear when you walk behind the mower and you get plenty of beneficial Vitamin D when Ms. Sunshine is out. Mentally, stress disappears when you listen to songbirds in the trees instead of depressing news on TV.

Second, there’s the environmental benefit. Caterpillars munching on your fennel, dill and parsley soon turn into beautiful butterflies; bees buzzing around coneflowers and Knock Out roses pollinate your tomatoes and green peppers.

Finally, there’s the aesthetic benefit. Your home looks nicer when the grass is green and camellias are flowering. A nice yard increase the value of your home and makes your entire neighborhood look attractive.
